MAREAA Victorian Branch State Conference 2014 for PREPARE Facilitators, Saturday 9 August 2014

A state-wide conference for both professional and voluntary practitioners interested in the field of marriage, relationship and family education.

Family Relationship Practitioners often struggle to fully engage men in the services they deliver. This presentation will explore the unique contribution men make to relationships and how this is utilised when working with individual couples or groups. It will also look at how relationship education outcomes for couples can be improved by practitioners using multisensory tools, increasing motivation of male clients, improving the marketing of your relevance, and the application of trusted relationship processes. Specifically the workshop will focus on:

• using strengths-based approaches when working with men
• exploring skills to work with men in a non-threatening way
• modelling effective, respectful and inclusive communication when working with men
• fostering of team-parenting
• engaging fathers using father-inclusive practice and the generative framework.

Presenter: Andrew King is a consultant trainer and program developer in group work, working with men and strengths based practice. He trains professionals throughout Australia and Canada in ‘working with men’. As an experienced practitioner he has published a range of professional articles on group work and engaging fathers. Andrew has also presented papers at National conferences and forums over the past 14 years and is a member of a range of professional associations.
